Our August session for EB1 peer group for NEDs, Trustees and people working at Board Level had slightly reduced attendance due to holidays, but we welcomed a new member, Jane, and Ashleigh moved from EB2 into this group because the timing worked better with her other commitments.

It was great to see improved numbers on the sign-ins for personal scores and positive business scores. As part of the sign-in for this group, Andrew Marsh, mentor and facilitator for the members, asked for everyone’s top tips and there were some great suggestions including:

  • Enjoy time out and get outside whenever you can
  • Always keep your own audit trail including timelines of key events in your NED and trustee roles
  • Know your worth / define the scope of services you provide
  • Embrace challenge
  • Always undertake due diligence before taking on any role
  • Be comfortable with silence in meetings

We then processed a number of real time questions from the peer group such as ensuring work life balance and commercial offer considerations. We debated at length when to know when enough is enough and we also talked about how to breathe life into and resurrect a flailing business.

Next, we moved onto questions about employing a corporate strategy for a charity, shareholder settlements and exit strategies.

It was a lively session with some deep discussion that left everyone feeling powered up to tackle the month ahead in their NED, board advisory, and Trustee roles.

If this sounds like the kind of session you shouldn’t be missing, then get in touch with me to discuss how to join the peer group. We currently have three groups that are proving very popular, with limited spaces available so do get in touch soon.
