Thank you to The Tyneside Cinema

Just before we broke for the Christmas break, the three cohorts of the peer group for existing and aspiring NEDs, Trustees, Board Advisors and consultants working at board level came together for a joint quarterly meeting. And what a great meeting it was.

Held at The Tyneside Cinema, we were privileged to be joined by Nic Greenan who joined the charity in February 2024 as CEO. As well as enjoying lunch and a tour of the facility, we learned about Nic’s history and experience and how the vision she and her team have for not only the building but for what they can offer.

Moving on from previous challenges and looking to a more positive future, Nic highlighted some exciting plans for The Tyneside Cinema, which we agreed as a group we can’t wait to see happen.

Guided by our facilitator and mentor Andrew Marsh, we then formed smaller groups to process a number of challenges posed to us by Nic. This was a perfect exercise for our members who are keen to learn more whilst also using their existing skills and experience. To actually get their teeth into a real-life scenario from outside the group tested their knowledge and ignited some fantastic conversations. As our group has strict Chatham House rules policy, I can’t share the details of the challenges or the suggestions but suffice to say, Nic took lots of ideas away as well as a few contacts who I know she will stay in touch with.

Having concluded business, we stayed for a few sociable drinks to mark the end of what had been a great year.

We have four joint cohort meetings a year and have been hosted in the past by The Tyneside Cinema, St Cuthberts Care, GNAAS and other charities in the region. We are always on the lookout for a charity who would like to take part by hosting us, so do get in touch if you think that could be you! As well as spreading the word about what you do, you get to pick the brains of our talented members, so it really is a win-win.

And if you are an existing or aspiring NED, Trustee, Board Advisor or consultant working at board level and you’d like to join one of my cohorts, then please reach out and let me know. I have just a few spaces for joining throughout 2025.
